Fireplace accessories are not only limited to things that would beautify your fireplace. These are actually things that you would need to ensure that you are able to use and maintain your fireplace properly. In terms of exterior (outdoor) accessories, there would be the normal chimney caps, fans and dampers. Among these accessories, the chimney cap would be the most important as it prevents sparks flying out from the chimney (leading to the possibility of a fire), and it also prevents unwanted animals from entering your chimney.
There are also interior needs when it comes to fireplace accessories. These would ensure that you would be able to enjoy your hearth to its fullest extent. One would be the fireplace door, which is ideal in keeping the sparks within the fireplace. It also helps to prevent the sparks from escape and ruining your carpet – or worse, harming anyone who happens to be sitting near the fireplace. The fireplace door also helps to minimize the amount of ash that may get scattered around the fireplace area and hearth. A door would also help in maximizing the power of your fire. Since it would centralize the heat, it would allow for a longer lasting fire than keeping your fireplace open. It would be most ideal to get a fireplace glass door so you’ll be able to enjoy the warmth and the view of having a blazing fire in your fireplace.
Fireplace tools are also considered to be essential accessories. These tools normally include a chimney brush, broom, shovel, tongs and a poker. They are normally needed to build the fire, as well as in keeping the fire burning. The broom and shovel also help in keeping your fireplace and hearth clean and ready for the next fire.
One of my favorite (and perhaps more unusual) fireplace accessories would be the popcorn popper. Just think of the wonderful memories you can gain with your family and loved ones by popping popcorn by the fireplace and telling stories. It can be one of the most enjoyable bonding sessions that you can have with your family members. Imagine making popcorn and toasting marshmallows by an open fire, sipping hot chocolate, tea or coffee. It assures you warmth on any winter’s night!
A safety gate is also a worthwhile fireplace accessory. It provides added protection to your children – and though a fireplace door can do the trick, they tend to be hot to the touch. For you to be worry free while you’re in another room, a safety gate is a good way to make sure that your children would not approach the hot fire. With these fireplace accessories, you can enjoy warm, blazing fires in your home all winter long!
